Happy New Year, everyone! This cold weather has got me wanting to stay indoors for the rest of my life. Instead of hitting the gym or running errands on my never-ending list, I just want to sit on my couch and sip on this spiced pear and bourbon cocktail. It brings all the warm fuzzies the weather is not currently providing for any of us!
First, I want to describe the spiced pear simple syrup to you. It’s so easy to make, and adds a wonderful depth of flavor to any winter cocktail. It starts with a modified simple syrup, which in this case is combining one and a half cups of very hot water with three quarters cups of sugar until the sugar is completely dissolved. Then, you’ll add chopped pears and cinnamon sticks to the syrup to achieve the “spiced pear” flavors, and it is delicious. Click here for the full recipe and directions!
You can add the spiced pear simple syrup to various spirits, and even prosecco! I personally prefer pairing it with bourbon, as some of the spice notes of the syrup play directly into the natural sweetness and baking spices that occurs in most bourbons. For the spiced pear and bourbon cocktail, I also added a touch of fresh orange juice and apple brandy for brightness. These flavors create a nice balance with the other flavors.
I suggest enjoying this cocktail after a wonderful hot meal this winter. You can also enjoy it as you sit on your couch and binge watch literally anything on TV. 🙂 [ my current / ongoing obsession? Shameless. ]
I also love to imagine myself throwing an incredible dinner party for my friends and family, then ending the evening with all of my guests imbibing the flavors of spiced pear and bourbon. So, if you a highly respectable human that throws elegant dinner parties, and you want to offer a slightly more elegant cocktail to your guests as a post-dinner treat, this is also an ideal candidate! 😀 It’s more approachable for those who don’t enjoy an entire mouthful of booze, but also boozy enough for those of us who do. 🙂
Stay warm out there, and cheers to you!
